Lenten Discipleship: Doing weekly meditation on Jesus' words from the cross
Use the time in Lent to meditate on the words Jesus spoke from the cross. A 'word' will be presented for each week in Lent.
Week of March 28 (Holy Week)
"It is finished."
"Father, into your hands I commit my spirit."
Ponder the cross as the culmination of God's redemptive work.
How much are you surrendering your life to God's will?
Week of March 21
"I thirst"
How have you felt suffering in your own life? Have you felt suffering in any way for the cause of Christ?
Week of March 14
"My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?"
Think of what it means to be forsaken. Have you ever felt forsaken in life? By a friend? By God?
Week of March 7
When Jesus saw his mother and the disciple whom he loved standing near, he said to his mother, "Woman, behold, your son! Then he said to the disciple, "Behold your mother!"
Explore how you might have cared for a family member in time of critical need.
Have you ever been in a caring relationship with anyone outside your family?
Week of February 28
"Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in Paradise"
Spend some time meditating on what Jesus said with these questions in mind...
1. How do you think the thief felt in hearing these words from Jesus?
2. Reflect on Jesus' love for you in securing a place in heaven.
